In addition, five residents traveled to Santiago, Chile, and one resident traveled to Kijabe, Kenya, on overseas away rotations, with both pre-travel orientation and post-return debriefing. In 2023, Dr. Claudette Poole spoke in August on local and global work in the Black Belt of Alabama. Albert Manasayan visited from Zambia and participated in a social gathering with the residents in September. In October, the interest group reviewed Global Health Ethics, while November brought a journal club analyzing the differences in outcomes in randomized controlled trials done in low-resource settings versus high-resource settings. The final meeting in 2023 included an excellent talk by Dr. Mark Baker about his work in disaster relief. In addition, this year, the PGY1s were once again led by Dr. Wally Carlo in Helping Babies Breathe.
