Children’s of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Pediatrics, and the UAB Sections of Pediatric Surgical Subspecialties work together to form the cornerstone for children’s health care in Alabama and the region. We are united by our shared passion for pediatric care, and our collective mission is to deliver exceptional care for children with an unwavering focus on research, innovation, education, and clinical care. Each story in our 2025 Annual Report reflects these pillars and our dedication to this mission. In this report, you’ll read about Yung Lau, M.D., and his appointment as chair of the UAB Department of Pediatrics and physician-in-chief at Children’s—a unique role that requires leadership of both entities. He lays out his vision for the future of both in this report.
