2026 2028 STRATEGIES AND TACTICS
Health Education and Safety Center (“HESC”) Dedicated HESC personnel will address child and adolescent safety in the following ways: • Children’s will continue collaborating with local, state and national providers including the Alabama Department of Transportation and ADECA that emphasize transportation-related education for birth to 18 years of age. This includes child restraints, seat belts, pedestrian safety, hot car deaths, ATV safety and all other forms of human-powered and motor vehicles. • Children’s will continue relationships with national safety organizations including Safe Kids, Injury Free Coalition for Kids and the Safe States Alliance to better inform its safety eorts using national best practices and programs. Children’s will seek input on evaluation methodologies from these organizations to determine e®cacy of program quality and outcomes, utilizing results for improvement. • Partner with the Alabama Department of Education to oer School Nurse health related information and skills competencies through lectures and labs as requested and planned annually including content provide in person and virtually throughout the year.
Alabama Poison Information Center (“APIC”) APIC, housed at Children’s, is a primary source of data surrounding everything from substance abuse to snakebites. The APIC serves the state as a resource for all ages, and will continue its leadership on substance abuse and treatment. Providing expert advice and prevention education for ingestion and exposure cases in Alabama.
