Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Children’s of Alabama specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of oral and craniofacial abnormalities. The goal of the Oral and Maxillofacial Department is to provide the best patient care in order to train the next generation.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) offers the Advanced Education Program, designed to meet the requirements of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Oral and Maxillofacial diagnostic and follow-up services are provided at Children’s of Alabama Clinic 12, 2nd Floor, Lowder Building, and also at our Hoover office, 501 Emery Drive West. Conditions treated include:

• Facial trauma • Bone grafts

• Management of facial asymmetries or deformities • TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder • Sleep apnea

• Dental implants and extractions • Impacted teeth and wisdom teeth • Oral lesions • Cysts and tumors

Outpatient services such as dental extractions, including removal of wisdom teeth, frenectomy, biopsy and other procedures are available with conscious sedation through the Children’s of Alabama services.
