PEDIATRIC UNDERSERVED AND GLOBAL HEALTH SCHOLARS PROGRAM The Pediatric Underserved and Global Health (PUGH) Scholars program is a longitudinal opportunity for pediatric residents at UAB to gain experience and focused education in global health during the three years of residency training. The aim of the Pediatric Underserved and Global Health (PUGH) Scholars Program is to provide residents with the opportunity of understanding the general principles related to health in developing countries and providing culturally sensitive and competent care in a limited resource setting. It consists of Global Health Interest Group meetings in addition to gatherings after hours. The Global Health Interest Group meets regularly during the year; these meetings are open to any interested resident. In 2023, Interest group participants started off the year with a visit from Dr. Alyssa Pfister, who lives full-time in Burundi and spoke about the realities of practicing in a low-resource setting. Next, Dr. Audrey Lloyd spoke about pediatric tuberculosis. We also had a simulation on shock and malnutrition. The final gathering for the 2022–2023 academic year included a graduation celebration for Dr. Kelsey Thetford as well as formal presentations about the two overseas electives that occurred this year. The evening activities included a social night with Dr. Pfister and another gathering to debrief after overseas trips, and the first-year PUGH Scholars participated in Helping Babies Breathe with Dr. Carlo.
