LEADERSHIP—DISTINGUISHED DINNERS FOR MENTORING These dinners create novel approaches to sustain the careers of junior faculty and improve interdisciplinary access to mentorship. The pilot program provided inspirational dinners for the Department of Pediatrics, which invited distinguished faculty members and junior faculty members to dinner. During dinner, the distinguished faculty member delivered a 20- to 30-minute overview of their career with highlights of their trajectory and barriers they have overcome.

The goals of the dinners: 1. Promote interdisciplinary mentorship 2. Improve interdisciplinary peer mentorship opportunities 3. Enhance the feeling of belonging to the departmental community

NEW FACULTY ORIENTATION In August, the OFD sponsored a full-day seminar covering issues relevant to new faculty, such as crucial conversations, wellness and career development.

NEW FACULTY RECOGNITION The OFD recognized 30 new pediatric faculty at the October Department of Pediatrics Faculty Meeting.

PEDIATRIC FACULTY EXCELLENCE AWARDS The OFD led the nomination and voting process to select and recognize outstanding pediatric faculty. Recipients were recognized at the November faculty meeting. Recipients of this year’s awards are listed in the Department of Pediatrics Faculty Achievement Award section. DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION The OFD helps coordinate the activities of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council, which includes trainee, faculty and staff committees. HEALTH EQUITY SCHOLARS The OFD helps facilitate the activities of the Health Equity Scholars, including two immersive trips per year, one in the spring and the other in the fall. The trip is a critical part of this curriculum, as it allows learners to have an immersive experience in historically marginalized, underserved and under-resourced communities. The Health Equity Scholars Program is designed to develop trainees into pediatricians with outstanding clinical skills who also understand the full range of determinants of health and systemic barriers that lead to inequities in health care. The program aims to provide some foundational knowledge of resources to help overcome systemic barriers.
