FEATURED RESEARCH The section continues to be engaged in all areas of clinical outcomes research in addition to collaborating with Dr. David C. Cleveland of the University of Southern California and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Bastrop, Texas, on xenotransplantation research. In collaboration with Dr. Hayden Zaccagni of the Children’s of Alabama pediatric cardiac critical care team; Ashley Moellinger, CRNP; and Dr. James Kirklin, there has been an increased emphasis to use our quality-improvement efforts to drive our research in clinical outcomes while exploring the use of a unified cardiac database. The section also continues to be active in research education, mentorship and aiding trainees (both U.S. medical students and residents) in exploring their interest in cardiothoracic surgery.
